Why I'm Uninstalling Disqus for WordPress

disqusI uninstalled Disqus, a commenting plugin for wordpress, today for several reasons. The first thing that I found annoying was it made the process for posting a comment longer. This is a minor setback however I want the users to be able to comment on the site quicker. Second the Powered by Disqus on everything was bothersome to see all the time. It’s alright to see it once but more than that is just over doing it in my opinion.

Also all the comments are moved to Disqus and they are no longer part of my site. Disqus uses javascript to show the comments on my posts. I prefer the comments to be apart of my site so I don’t have to rely on outside sources. Disqus is popular no doubt and is used by thousands, however I prefer my site without Disqus for the time being. I may consider trying to use it again with other projects in the future though.

  1. Hey Hara,

    1. So how exactly did using our system make it longer to comments?
    2. We actually locally sync with WordPress, so that not true.

If you have any questions about our service feel free to shoot me a message http://disqus.com/help

  5. Well I had to import some of the comments back. The comments are still stored in Disqus’s database though.

  6. I think Disqus makes commenting take longer because it asks you if you want to create an account before the comment is posted.

  10. Disqus is a global comment system that improves discussion on websites and connects conversations across the web.

  11. Thanks for your post. I wish it was more in detail, because I am considering doing this, too. At first, I liked the fact that Disqus showed Twitter reactions, etc. But I think that Comment Luv is one of the best plugins for getting more people to interact with your site. If you pop over to my site, you may just see Comment Luv back up and running again instead of Disqus.

  12. Ya some people really like it Melanie I may consider trying to use it again. The best thing to do would be to setup a test blog and messing with their plugin and comment system

  18. I’m still deciding on disqus for our website but it looks like its not the best option if i can’t store my data locally… also, we do some pretty complex stuff with our coments… better to build it ourselves!

  19. I would have to say after doing more testing and research since this post. For some sites it works great it’s really preference. If you are really curious you should try to install and see if you like it or not.
